Personality & Traits

General Overview Karissa is a Binuvian, a race that, like the mythical phoenix, regenerates when death is near into a new form. They cocoon themselves and come out with a new form and personality, and sometimes a new gender. This is Karissa's seventh 'cycle' as they call it, and her first as a female. She is inquisitive, and loves discovering new things, and seeing new species, and sometimes checks in on people she knew in a past cycle (despite her species strong taboo on doing so) to see how they're doing.
Karissa has seven lives' worth of experience in various fields that give her a unique perspective on things. This means she usually knows a wide variety of information on a wide variety of things, but can get lost in minutiae when discussing some things. She strongly believes in tradition and the military and exploratory mission of Starfleet, but at the same time, is willing to bend the rules if necessary to get the job done.

5 - Kyvo Andoro-Thrinn ThorVaal (2231-2292): Enterprise (2264-2285), Enterprise A (2287-2291)
6 - Jimaro Kyvo-Thrinn ThorVaal (2292-2366): Enterprise B (2294-2306)
7 - Karissa Jimaro-Rinn ThorVaal (2366-Present)

Her people discovered FTL spaceflight in the 1840s (earth years), and began mapping out planets to visit, discovering that many species had not discovered spaceflight yet. Her planet was only a dozen light years or so from a planet called Earth, and so Jahann spent time on Earth attempting to learn their ways and languages. He managed to learn French, German, Spanish, English, Irish (the easiest for him), Welsh, Cornish, and Scots Gaelic (second easiest) enough to get by. In his travels on Earth, he picked up quite a few books and artifacts, and accidentally stopped a general from getting shot in 1863, which may have changed history, but he didn't tell his superiors about that. His people discovered the Vulcans in 1875, and saw they were rebuilding their spaceflight abilities as well. On a second visit to Earth in 1873, he discovered another war with a distant power. He visited a few other countries and left, his notes on Earth becoming a very popular book on his home planet.

Jimaro served as a mentor to Captain McGowan and a sponsor of his entry into the academy. Despite serving as a mentor role, Jimaro would often get into trouble with McGowan when they got together, and was known to fall in love with a new woman every week it seemed. When McGowan found out he was Binuvian, he called him 'Old Man,' and Jimaro replied with 'young whippersnapper,' giving them both affectionate nicknames for one another.
Strengths & Weaknesses Binuvians are on average stronger than humans; a female is about equivalent to a human male in athletic ability for a person of the same weight and height, and a male is about twice as strong as a human male of the same ability.

Strengths:
-inquisitive, knowledgeable, very loyal, fun-loving, enjoys parties, eidetic memory
Weaknesses:
-can sometimes zone out in scientific lingo to less scientifically-minded people, sometimes goes into stories from past cycles as if they were just last week, can sometimes hoard things from past lives (despite cultural taboo on it)
Ambitions Is ambivalent about becoming a captain again, but wants to discover the galaxy again after spending time back on Binuvia III with her family for her most recent regeneration.
Hobbies & Interests Hobbies: Archaeology, history, dancing
Interests: physics, warp theory

Personal History Jahann was born in the earth year 1805, the Binuvian year 12633. The year 2370 is 13198 for them. As Jahann, he became utterly fascinated with science, and the LENR systems powering homes, and the theoretical applications of anti-matter. Working together with several teams on his planet, he helped make FTL drives practical, rather than just possible. Two centuries prior, his planet had discovered artificial gravity generators, making their Lagrange Stations possible, which served as waypoints for astronomers and asteroid belt miners bringing back valuable minerals to Binuvia. By the time he was born field-trips to their moon were commonplace, and Jahann wanted to go farther than just his own solar system and their 14 planets and two asteroid belts. His experimental ship, Gabála, was the first to leave the solar system in 1840, and wouldn't have been possible without centuries of major developments in science before him. He found the planets around Alpha Centauri nice, but uninhabited. When asked about claiming them for his people he said 'why claim it? let someone else have it.' He wasn't interested in colonies or empire, but pure exploration and the engineering of it. They mapped out several dozen habitable worlds that humans two centuries or so afterward would claim in their rush to space after their third world war.

In 1850, Jahann discovered the most interesting world yet, Earth. It had dozens upon dozens of cultures, languages, and peoples, and he convinced his planet to let him investigate it. He spent 16 years on Earth traveling around, attempting not to interfere in their development, though he did save a cavalry soldier's life in 1863, but conveniently left that out of his report to his superiors. His next exploration was to Vulcan from 1866 to 1872, finding an advanced civilization that had turned inward but was peaceful and logical and was interested in trade with his own people. Returned home to Binuvia in 1890 to write about his journeys, inspiring many new engineers and scientists among his people, and spent time with his children and grandchildren. His granddaughter Suuzaan was his favorite, and went on a number of trips out of the solar system with him. When it was his time, he regenerated into Jisonn, taller, more well-built, and more physically active than Jahann was.
Jisonn had black hair and blue eyes, and was a skilled martial artist, and a natural leader, something Jahann tried to avoid in his life. As per custom, he had to cut ties with his family, a sad day but a cultural requirement of the Binuvian society. He spent a decade in various monasteries learning meditation, martial arts, and natural healing techniques, and helped direct the Binuvian space companies into a formal Stellar Navy under the planetary government for defense and peace-keeping purposes. He also spent time saving dozens of endangered species, including the 'dragons' - giant reptiles that were nearing extinction, warm-blooded and had often attacked Binuvians well back into their mythology. He became a doctor after this, using traditional remedies and healing techniques to save dozens of lives. By the later portion of his life, Jisonn had helped bring the Binuvian ships to a technical level about on par with the phase pistols of the Earth NX-class ships and stellar torpedoes, which could disrupt energy fields, like those used to polarize hulls on some other species' starships. He never saw war as Jisonn, but spent his life training and honing his body and mind, and was a mentor to many people, something he appreciated and enjoyed up till it was time for his regeneration.
Karlo was his third cycle and was spent outside of formal service, as he wanted to try something new, and went into business for himself, trading spices and cuisines, becoming quite the chef of various interstellar cuisines, opening up a stellar cruise-line, with travel between star systems in relative luxury, enjoying 'exotic' cuisine such as plomeek soup, bloodwine, or curry. The 'Galaxy Shuttle' was his first English-language ship, with 'Star Saber' being his second attempt with a larger, more luxurious vessel. He met several women on his voyages, and his wife found him in the sauna, mistaking it for the women's sauna, and hitting it off quite well. The two were very happily married, the first off-world marriage for Karlo, and they had 14 children and 96 grandchildren together. When Krianna regenerated, she left, and soon after, Karlo regenerated into Andoro, and decided to leave also.
Andoro decided to return to Earth, the first planet he explored, to see how it was doing. He joined their Starfleet, as he wanted some guidance and structure again in life. He knew English well enough not to have an accent, and became a Lt. Cdr. on his ship, the NX-05 Atlantis, as a science officer. He eventually became the first officer before retiring in 2164 to help guide his planet into the Federation. To this day he has a fondness for the NX class ship, its styling, how classic and now 'retro' it feels. He spent much of the rest of his life going between Earth and Binuvia in a semi-ambassadorial capacity. In 2231, he regenerated into Kyvo, and rejoined Starfleet, opting not to retake his former rank of Lt. Cdr. but going back to the boot camp since it had been so long since he had been in. He got assigned to the Enterprise as an NCO this time, and worked his way up to Commander by 2285, moving over to Excelsior. Given his past experience with warp drive, the Excelsior's sabotage turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as the transwarp drive would've failed had they used it. He served to refit the ship, and then went to the Enterprise-A for a while, and then retired again in 2291.
As Jimaro, he rejoined Starfleet on the Enterprise B for a decade (he later admitted it was because he loved the uniform - the women loved the uniform) before he retired this time as a captain on his own ship, the USS Utopia, NCC-1981, an older Constitution class vessel that he had for ten years before finally retiring again and serving as a teacher at the academy, ambassador, and then finally returning to the academy in the 2340s, where he became a mentor to a young Jim McGowan, helping him find direction and also steering him towards his future wife. In their first meeting, finding out that he was Binuvian, Jim said 'you really are an old man!' to which Jimaro replied, 'well you're a young whippersnapper!' and the two had a good laugh. When Jimaro regenerated into Karissa, he decided to rejoin the academy, since it had been again about a century or so since he'd gone through it, and decided to rejoin Starfleet as a science officer.
