Time for a change

The Andromeda

Alex sat on the bench breathing hard. He had finally got the work out he had been craving. It was over a week already since his last mission and he was starting to tense up. This game and the run after was just what the doctor ordered.

“Hey you.” Came a voice over his shoulder.

“Back at ya. What are you doing here? On the prowl?” Asked Alex jokingly.

“Actually I’m here for you.” She said in a matter of fact kind of way.

“Really? This better be good, cause I can’t usually get you anywhere near a gym.” Said Alex

“Well, I came to tell you to pack your gear. We got new orders. Something about the USS Andromeda. Seems she needs a new Chief of Security and someone thought you would be perfect for the job.” She said with a sheepish grin. He knew she was telling a lie, he could see it on her face.

“OMG girl, what did you do? Spit it out.” Ordered Alex

“Why do you always think that I’m the bearer of my own orchestrated bad news? I don’t always get you in trouble, sometimes you do that on your own. But I’m always there cause I got your back.” And she smiled again.

“So, let me take a stab at this. You got orders, and you didn’t want to go alone, so you called in a favor or two and got me transferred also! How am I doing?” He asked

“You’re pretty good at this game. Come on, I’ll feel you in on the dirty details on the way to the shuttle. The ship has just been refit and is in space dock. The new crew are making their way there as we speak. Vacation is over.” She said

For some strange reason, he could not be mad with her or even get angry. She had grown on him even though he hated to admit it.

“Ok, spill.” And she began talking. By the time they reached his quarters, he was up to speed. She was Star Fleet Intel after all, if she didn’t know where the bodies lay, what the hell was the use?

“Well at the very least I have my own department. Keep me up to date. How you want to work our relationship into the scheme of things?” He asked

“Strictly professional unless it’s just you and me, then we can let our hair down. There’s still a couple things you do better than anybody in the three quadrants.” She said while turning Red in the face.

“Yeah, tell me about it. Show you right.” He said boasting. As they made it to his quarters, took a shower and got packed.

An hour and 45 mins later:

“All my stuff is tagged for transport. I’ll tag these last couple boxes and send this info to the quarter master on the Andromeda. It will be waiting in our rooms when we get there.” She said

“Then I guess we’re off to see the Wizard.” Said Alex remembering a line from a very old movie of the 20th Century.

“That’s one way of putting it.” And they headed out. The shuttle ride was ok. They were boarding the Andromeda now and security was on point. Alex liked what he was seeing. Somebody had at the very least been practicing Opsec. (Operational Security). Because as they say, loose lips sink ships he thought to himself.

As he approached the entrance the security seemed to get tighter and a little more stern.

“Hello sir. Welcome, I see by your uniform you’re security. You wouldn’t be the new Chief in Charge would you?” Asked the younger man also dressed in Security yellow.

“Actually I am.But we won’t stand on ceremony. You’re doing a great job. So I’m requesting permission to come aboard.” Said Alex.

Just then the woman in all black chimed in. “That makes two of us. My name is Porsche’ and I’m in intelligence in case you couldn’t guess.”

The Security Officer checked his padd and smiled. “You are both welcome to come aboard.” And he waved them through.

After getting squared away, Alex headed to the bridge.
