21st Century

2063 - April - humans encounter Vulcans for the first time in New Mexico, where Zefram Cochrane launched his warp speed test ship, the Phoenix. His ship was able to skirt the atmosphere and land off the state of Rio Grande as his command pod parachuted three miles away from the launch site.
2096 - Humans created a United Earth, with all nations agreeing to a unified diplomatic and defensive organization that holds no authority within their borders, a true confederation of nations.

22nd Century

2151 - NX Class Enterprise is launched
2156-2160 - Earth-Romulan War is fought mostly by Earth.
2161 - United Federation of Planets is formed by Earth, Tellar, Andor, Vulcan, Alpha Centauri, and several Earth colonies. The Federation is a confederated republic on an interstellar level, maintaining external defense, pooling scientific research for the various planetary sovereignties, and protecting the rights of the various peoples within it. The economic model is almost entirely free-market, without subsidies or favoritism.
